The Objective 2 Programme for the South West of England provides financial assistance from the European Community towards the costs of projects aimed at promoting the economic regeneration of targeted deprived areas in the South West. The funding funds projects which work to improve prosperity and create a quality of life equal to that of the best in Europe for those people living in the deprived parts of the South West.

The Objective 2 Programme was launched on 13th March 2001. Approximately £120m was made available under the Objective 2 programme for the South West (GOSW), which was committed by 31st December 2006. The Government Office for the South West is responsible for the day to day running of the programme and ensuring that the funding is allocated and spent in line with the priorities of the programme.
Funding is allocated between the 3 priorities and 14 measures which are set out in detail in the Single Programming Document (SPD) for the South West. The SPD contains the rationale, background and strategic framework within which projects will come forward for support.
